NASA and the official Star Wars Twitter account have all the jokes. That is, they do when a moon looks like the Death Star.
Star Wars is filled with jokes that were probably not jokes to begin with but, throughout the years, have become fans’ go-to references. One of those? Referencing the fact that the Death Star is no moon.
So when NASA tweeted from the Cassini Saturn account about the crater on Saturn’s moon Tethys, the Star Wars account decided it was time to remind fans of that famous Obi-Wan Kenobi moment. And just in time too, since fans all over have been talking about Old Ben Kenobi because of a big appearance in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Now, we’re not saying that NASA is trying to help out the Star Wars franchise give clues to what movies are going to come out, but still, that’d be a pretty cool friendship. Instead, fans just got a fun little interaction between actual NASA and whoever over at Disney thought they were being clever.
Check out the tweets below:
The most visually striking feature on Saturn’s icy moon Tethys is an enormous impact crater called Odysseus. We captured this view in 2015. https://t.co/MkBJWo7kdx

(And, yes, it’s a moon. We checked.) pic.twitter.com/ycjHCIfb5j
We’ve contacted Obi-Wan Kenobi. Just to be sure. 😉 https://t.co/aT3hgHR5dg

There is a second one, too. This is Saturn’s moon Mimas. Fortunately, it’s not operational either: https://t.co/bhMgdqiXLp pic.twitter.com/QNTNfCFrQQ

Still though, with the internet abuzz with a certain Sith lord showing up in Solo, it seems pretty on the nose for the official Twitter account to bring up Obi-Wan. Is Lucasfilm going to finally announce that production is underway for the movie we’ve all wanted since Ewan McGregor first donned the robes? Who knows? These days, it seems as if they’re never going to give us the Obi-Wan movie we want.
Apart from just a fun interaction, this tweet just brings up more questions about Kenobi and whether or not we’ll see him again in a standalone film.
