Harry Potter has some pretty interesting fears

We all have fears and Harry Potter is no different. His are just a little bit different than what we might be used to.

Harry Potter is a Gryffindor, meaning that he’s brave at heart. Now, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t get frightened. In fact, we have seen him scared more often than not throughout the series. What is interesting is Harry admitting that he isn’t just afraid of the Dark Lord.

At the end of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Harry and Albus have a heart to heart about the things that Harry is truly afraid of. While a lot of audiences have mixed opinions on his ‘fears’, I found them absolutely heartbreaking. Why?

Well first, he says that’s he’s afraid of the dark and confined spaces, something that is a construct of his childhood. So while fans who may not be thinking about the Dursley’s hear that, they’ll laugh (which is what happened in my audience).

I, on the contrary, cried because it was pointing out that years living in that cupboard under the stairs has truly had an effect on Harry. What was funny and surprising however was his fear of pigeons (something the cast picked up on and teases Jamie Parker about in his latest tweet).

It’s funny because, for years, Harry’s best friend was a bird so to picture him afraid of any kind of bird is silly. He hates them and is freaked out by them and it humanizes Harry in a way. He’s sassy and angry and he cries and fights but to see him as a grown man seemingly terrified of a bird makes him the boy we know and love.

So Harry might not be the bravest wizard out there but he tries and that’s what makes us love Harry James Potter the most.
