This Avengers 4 fan theory says Doctor Strange could be in the Captain Marvel movie

An Avengers 4 fan theorized a link that explains why Nick Fury knows to contact Captain Marvel. It could all be with the help of Doctor Strange.

With 14 million possible outcomes and one winning scenario for the Avengers to defeat Thanos, you have to think Doctor Strange has something up his sleeves. To help us bridge Avenger: Infinity War, Captain Marvel and Avengers 4, one fan thinks they know exactly what strings the movies together.

On Reddit, user WamsyTheOneAndOnly theorizes that Doctor Strange is the link between Captain Marvel and Nick Fury. It does make you wonder how and why Nick Fury knows to contact Captain Marvel during that end scene of Infinity War, and this one makes sense.

Some of the theory goes as follows:

"I believe [Doctor Strange will] appear in the CM movie and tell Fury it is vital for him to carry around with him the pager to contact Captain Marvel. Nick Fury, knowing about Steven Strange lists him as an ally to shield which of course is how Hydra knows about him despite him being a neurosurgeon (anyone who is an ally of SHIELD is a threat to HYDRA). He warns him of an event in the future refering [sic] to the people turning to dust without warning."

The points make for a very interesting plot if true. As of now, fans of the movie don’t necessarily know which of Captain Marvel’s powers will be able to help the Avengers defeat Thanos. (You could look back on the comics for help, but the Russo brothers like to divert from them to keep us on our toes.) So perhaps Fury did not know on his own that he should contact Captain Marvel. If he was visited by Doctor Strange, he would know better.

This theory also makes sense of the Stephen Strange name drop in Captain America: Civil War. In the movie, when Captain America confronts Agent Sitwell for the Hydra infiltration, Sitwell mentions that Cap, along with Stephen Strange and others were on Hydra’s watch list. Some fans were confused as to why Strange was mentioned if he was not yet established as the Sorcerer Supreme.

But according to the theory, Strange would be on Hydra’s watch list because of his visit to Fury in the past. Another fan argued in the comments that perhaps that’s a bit fallible. And Strange would have been on Hydra’s watch list because he’s highly intelligent and could eventually become a threat (meaning he wasn’t the sorcerer he was just yet).

The last, and quite possibly funniest, bit of the theory goes on to explain that Strange didn’t tell Fury that he would be taken as part of the wipeout, too. So that’s why he responds with his supervised expletive just before he blows away.

Again, these are all just theories. But it’s enough to make you think and get you excited for what’s to come. We can look forward to seeing Captain Marvel (and maybe Doctor Strange) in her solo movie in March 2019. And we most definitely can assume we’ll see them both in Avengers 4 in May 2019.
