Romilda Vane is unethical but also we get it

Romilda Vane may not be a name you remember but it is one that Harry Potter will never forget.

There are so many characters in the Harry Potter series but Romilda Vane is one that always sticks out. Why? She is the epitome of every girl with a crush. She just has magic and a little bit of insanity on her side to help her out.

I remember growing up and relating to Romilda and maybe that says more about me than I’d like to admit but she is one of those characters who tends to get villainized just because she was a girl with a crush.

More from Harry Potter

She saw Harry Potter, fell in love and crushed on him. She’s just magical and has the ability to use spells and charms to try and win him over. It really isn’t as bad as many made her out to be when we were kids. Think about it now as an adult, she just had a crush and wanted it to work out.

Didn’t you used to act differently around your crush to try and impress them? Haven’t you even changed something about yourself to make you look more appealing to them? That’s our muggle way of trying to win someone over. Romilda just happened to use a love potion to try and get Harry to love her back.

Do I approve of her antics? No, it is still a little crazy to trick someone into loving you. But she isn’t a villain. She’s a teenager with a crush and while we, now as adults, might not understand that, as teenagers, we definitely could relate to her.

So maybe not go and pour a love potion on your crush but at least don’t bash Romilda Vane for doing what all of us wish we could have done in high school.
