Sherlock creators announce a new adventure coming later this year and it’s not a new season

Sherlock creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat announced a new adventure for fans called “The Game is Now.” But, they say it’s definitely not a new episode or season.

Despite being on a possible hiatus between seasons of Sherlock, the game is still afoot for fans of the show with something new and exciting on the way.

Sherlock creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat announced that something’s coming to London this year, but they didn’t necessarily say what. Well, they did let us know it’s not a new episode, series or movie. But they did announce it aptly on Tuesday, which is Sherlock Holmes Day (aka, author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s birthday).

When you go to the website for what they call The Game is Now, you get taken to a screen where Gatiss and Moffat vaguely chat about what’s to come. Then, users are prompted to sign up to receive more information. Once you do that, you can watch a secret video that shows an audio recording between characters Mycroft and Holmes. The two discuss that there’s a new mission, but they’d rather use ordinary, dull people to do it (that’s us).

So what could this be? Steven Moffat said that you should expect something “involving the people that you’d expect to be involved in a Sherlock adventure.” Does that mean the stars of the show, including the very in-demand Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, could be there? Because what would a Sherlock Holmes adventure be without Holmes and Watson?

It’d probably be a lot to get the actors to come to whatever this is. Still, it is possible that this could be an interactive mystery of some sort. Or perhaps, shall we say, the world’s largest murder mystery dinner.

Some on Twitter have speculated that it could be a Sherlock-themed escape room, which would be pretty fun. Maybe they’ll be channeling their inner season 4 finale, where Sherlock’s secret sister Eurus locked him and his friends in a murderous funhouse. There’ll likely be a lot less murder in the actual adventure, we’re sure.

While it’s an adventure (and that could mean a “game”), it seems unlikely that it would be a gaming app that anyone could play. Plus, the team already released a mobile Sherlock mystery game a few years ago.

This could be a fun, exciting adventure for all Sherlock fans out there. And it’ll likely be a must-see attraction for all Holmes fans making a visit to London. But for now, we’ll just have to stay tuned to see what it could really be.
