Calling a hat wild doesn’t mean it’s bad, necessarily. Sometimes, wild hats can even be good. We leave it to you to decide about these royal wedding hats.

When it comes to style across the pond especially for such a big event as the royal wedding, the first thing anyone thinks about is the hats. Granted, the fashion of the wedding of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle might change that, just because there were some amazing ensembles.

But there were also some absolutely bonkers hats. Now, we mean this in a mostly non-judgmental way — as we said above, wild could mean that it’s either a really good hat or a really bad hat.

Like it or not, though, these five chapeaus stole some of the show at the royal wedding.

Princess Michael of Kent

This hat seems fairly standard when you look at the top part of it — large, tipped at an angle, round — but then you get to the giant flowers right by Princess Michael of Kent’s face, and you start to think that this hat deserves the wild descriptor, even if it’s in a very neutral tone.

Lady Edwina Louise Grosvenor

This hat, worn by Lady Edwina Louise Grosvenor, is a much more modern hat, with no flowers of any kind. The shape of it is also … unique, reminding this writer of a very nice pink pie plate. Props to her for going all in on the circles, though — she has both pink and black ones on her dress.

Though these two hats made valiant efforts to make themselves known, we have three more hats that are all contenders for the crown of wildest hat at this year’s royal wedding, which is definitely not a thing we just made up.
