Shadowhunters mid-season finale preview: Last chance to stop Lilith

The Shadowhunters have one final shot at stopping Lilith in the mid-season finale this week. But if they’ve learned anything, it’s that it won’t be easy.

The Shadowhunters mid-season finale is here, and it’s going to be big.

Lilith has captured her Owl once again, and thanks to the blood of her disciples, Jonathan is just about ready to return. But she did lose two of her followers, thanks to Simon, and in the two-hour finale, Lilith is truly on a warpath.

Here’s Freeform’s official synopsis for the first half of the event:

"Clary faces down an old foe in an attempt to find answers about Lilith’s plan. Alec and Magnus turn to Lorenzo Rey for help, while Lilith finds a new ally. Luke must choose between his pack and his family, as Simon is forced to deal with his past. (Guest starring Anna Hopkins, Chai Hansen and Javier Muñoz)"

In part two of the finale, it seems all of Hell’s royal family breaks loose. Here’s Freeform’s synopsis:

"In the climactic mid-season finale, the team scrambles to find a way to put a stop to Lilith’s plan coming to fruition. But going up against their biggest opponent yet, their odds are not looking good. Meanwhile, Simon makes a heartbreaking choice with Isabelle’s help and Magnus reconnects with a powerful person from his past. (Guest starring Anna Hopkins, Jack Yang, Alexandra Ordolis and Nicola Correia-Damude)"

That powerful person from Magnus’ past? His father Asmodeus. He’s been alluded to all season, but his role in the events of the finale is still unclear. Based on this episode still, he’s not messing around.

This may not be the only family reunion tonight. If Lilith succeeds, Jonathan will return and mother and son will be together again. Based on the episode promo, it looks like Simon might have some family drama too, thanks to Heidi.

It’s going to be a whole hot mess — literally, it looks like they even visit Edom in the promo — and odds are, no one’s ready.
