Jurassic Park: The Ride going extinct or just evolving?
Is the thrilling 84-foot plunge disappearing? Jurassic Park: The Ride is evolving into a Jurassic World ride, but will fans want the original?
Universal Studios Hollywood announced a big evolution to a fan favorite ride. Jurassic Park: The Ride won’t be part of the theme park’s line up much longer. Those favorite dinosaurs are ready to evolve into a new generation of frightening creatures and pre-historic thrills. A Jurassic World ride is coming.
According to Universal Studios Hollywood, Jurassic Park: The Ride will see its final plunge on Sept. 3, 2018. Fortunately, the dinosaurs aren’t fully disappearing; they are just evolving. The water ride will receive a revamp. The new ride, based on Jurassic World, will feature “never-before-seen dinosaurs, enhanced storytelling, lush scenic design, an entirely new color scheme and uncompromised state-of the art technology.”
These broad statements don’t provide any concrete clues regarding the new design or elements. The technology statement is the most intriguing part of the announcement. Universal has been trying to push the technology envelope in its new attractions.

For example, the newly opened Fast and Furious ride at Universal Studios Orlando uses projection technology that has images appear 3D without the use of special glasses. This type of imagery could be applied to various aspects of the new Jurassic World attraction.
An interesting bigger technological advancement would be in the animatronics. If those dinosaurs could have more interaction with guests, that aspect would make the ride more immersive. This type of ride wouldn’t necessarily need live actors, but some type of interactive feature could make the dinosaurs more life-like.

As for the new color scheme, this aspect will probably be applied to the boat itself. While the bright yellow boats are clearly recognizable, the new Jurassic movies have a more modern color scheme. A dark grey or dark neutral tone would work.
While this revamp is happening in Universal Studios Hollywood, it would be interesting to see if the changes come to Universal Islands of Adventure ride. The two rides are very similar. In Florida, this ride usually has a long wait time during the warmer months. More people would probably want the age limit removed from Pteranodon Flyers over a revamp of Jurassic Park the Ride. So many adults would rather fly than splash down the water ride.
Universal Resorts Orlando has other new rides and attractions on the horizon. From a new Harry Potter roller coaster in Hogsmeade to a replacement for the Terminator ride, there are many new experiences coming to Orlando. A redesign of the Jurassic ride might not be a priority for the Florida theme park.
