Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD season 5 episode 20 recap and review: The One Who Will Save Us All

Graviton rises to power on Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD with Coulson along for the ride. The rest of the team tries to figure out how to be backup.

If you’ve missed General Talbot’s war raving on Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, you’ll love this week’s episode!

Not-So-Short Summary and Analysis

When Coulson and Talbot arrive on the Remorath ship, Talbot immediately takes control. He scrunches up one alien with a flick of his eyebrows and immediately the rest of them are kneeling to him? I feel like it would take a bit more than that to take over a giant alien spaceship.

It is fun to see the Talbot/Coulson dynamic in action, even if Talbot’s a little over-the-top. They’ve always been excellent foils to each other. And that really hasn’t changed. Talbot is a little more overpowering, but that might also be his powers.

With Hale in their midst knowing how the Confederacy operates, the team tries to renegotiate a deal with the Confederacy. Talbot looks pretty good cleaned up, very similar to Graviton in the comics.

Talbot also meets Kasius’ father! He informs Talbot that Thanos is now fighting on Earth (“Then I need to go join the Avengers!” Talbot argues, but wouldn’t they all be criminals in his eyes?). He also informs Talbot of more Gravitonium on Earth and Talbot wants to infuse himself with more to help fight Thanos.

Back on the still-solid ground, the rest of our SHIELD team tries to figure out the best course of action. Daisy returns and the tension between here and Yo-Yo cuts like a knife. And involves Inhuman powers. Plus, Daisy bringing in the skeleton of her mother is… kind of creepy.

Plus they don’t stay on the ground for long. Fitz officially builds the first spaceship for SHIELD. May and Daisy come in to rescue them all, but it’s Hale who nearly saves the day, trying to use the Hydra brainwashing to talk Talbot down.

It doesn’t work. She gets squished into a ball like him and the rest of the SHIELD team gets thrown in the space brig.

Kasius picks up Daisy from the Confederacy meeting place.

Badass Moment of the Week

The Zephyr taking off into space like a spaceship is pretty darn badass.

Best One-Liner

“Also a creep put a bunch of lemons on my bed…” Daisy unloads to Deke, who tries to pass it off as classic old Fitz.

Daisy does a lot of unloading on Deke, though I’m not sure if I buy her “I’m still in love with Lincoln” schtick she throws out there. Then again, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the character, so I forgot him fairly quickly. He was the first Inhuman Daisy really bonded with, and that definitely sticks with a person.

Also, has anyone realized how much Mack has been targeted since they returned to the present? He used to be part of everything and now he’s arguing against everyone and having people try to apologize for stuff they’ve done to him.

And no one turns to dust yet! Next week’s episode? The finale? It’s happening simultaneously with Infinity War; all of SHIELD can’t be exempt.

Next week’s Agents of SHIELD looks like it goes into overdrive, with Kasius’s father showing Daisy how to unlock her true potential. It really feels like we’re still in that time loop.
