You’ll remember Miriam Margolyes as Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter movies, but she’s taking on the role of Sister Mildred in the Call the Midwife special.

Miriam Margolyes is a veteran to the big and small screen and to the stage. Well known for her role of Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter movies, she is now taking on the persona of a nun in the upcoming Christmas special of Call the Midwife. Her entrance to the series already sounds exciting, as she’ll turn up with four Chinese orphans who need help at Nonnatus House.

These Chinese orphans have fled their homeland and have come to the UK under the World Refugee Project. Miriam Margolyes’ character, Sister Mildred, will appear with the orphans, but it’s not clear exactly what her role will be in their lives. However, she will also appear in one episode of Call the Midwife Season 8 to welcome in a number of new cast members.

The Christmas special was already sent to be an exciting episode. It follows the departure of Bryony Hannah, who has played Cynthia Miller since the series began back in 2012. The special will also welcome new Mother Superior, although who that will be isn’t exactly known yet. The favorite is Sister Julienne, played by Jenny Agutter.

According to Dame Pippa Harris, executive producer of the series, Margolyes character is formidable, which isn’t that surprising considering the actress and the role she had in Harry Potter. Margolyes addition comes after an interview in 2016 where she said that she would love to guest star in the series. Ask and you shall get if you’re a veteran star it would seem. As a fan of the show before guest starring, we know that her character will fit right into the Christmas special.
