The Battle of Hogwarts is never an easy time for Potter fans

Every year for the Battle of Hogwarts, J.K Rowling apologizes for a death. The problem? It isn’t always the death we want.

The Battle of Hogwarts isn’t the only time in the Harry Potter where people perished. So every year on the anniversary, J.K Rowling apologizes for just any death in the series. For many of us, it is sweet but also doesn’t explain why she had to murder that specific character.

This year, Rowling apologized for the death of Dobby the house elf. Which fine, great, glad she realized that was sad and depressing and not what any of us wanted. The problem though? There are so many deaths like that and she is still going for the big ones.

More from Harry Potter

Granted, she’s already apologized for a lot. Sirius Black and Remus Lupin both got their apologies but that doesn’t change the fact that she murdered them. The thing to remember is that there will always be causalities in war. Many times, those we hold dear to us. The deaths that truly hit hard are those who were murdered prior to the Battle of Hogwarts.

They didn’t have a chance to fight alongside their friends to end this reign of terror that has plagued their lives, they were cut off before they could take down Voldemort. So while deaths like Dobby and even Remus and Tonks are sad, they are necessary causalities.

I want to see a real apology for people like Sirius and Albus, who dedicated their lives to the fight against Voldemort and didn’t even get to see Harry finish what they had started all those years ago. But we probably won’t ever see that.
