Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers: The once and future setting

Game of Thrones season 8 reportedly continues filming in Northern Ireland, suggesting that a return to a previous setting might be in store for the show.

Warning: Game of Thrones season 8 filming spoilers are still spoilers, even if we don’t know exactly what’s going on there.

Game of Thrones season 8’s production time feels like it’s gone on forever, but we’re not even halfway through 2018. Since the show will debut season 8 next year, it’s probably better for everyone involved if things just keep on keeping on, right?

Besides, it means that accounts like Irish Thrones on Twitter have more time to dig up information for us.

Check out the tweet below:

It’s nice to know that Nikolaj Coster-Waldau still has some work, considering the rumors and reports going around that suggest Jaime Lannister could end up dying partway through the season. The only question is … where are we going to see Jaime?

If this is your first rodeo with Game of Thrones production, Corbet-Banbridge is best known as the home of Riverrun. Since Jaime just starts his journey north at the end of season 7, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that he would stop there on his way up. (It might not be the smartest idea, considering how much chaos House Frey is probably still in after Walder Frey’s death, but it’s an idea, since Riverrun is technically the Freys’ now after the siege in season 7.) However, as our sister site Winter is Coming and Irish Thrones both note, it’s not the only setting that is filmed there.

Additionally, the note from Irish Thrones that Coster-Waldau isn’t the only one of the “main actors” there right now opens up a lot of speculation. Fans have already asked who else is there, but the account has remained mum so far. Who could be there? It’s hard to say exactly, because we aren’t sure that this is Riverrun, but hey, Edmure Tully’s still alive and presumably still in a cell somewhere. An appearance from him doesn’t seem like it would hit true “main actor” status, though.
