The 2018 version of Black Panther is perfect, but fans on Twitter couldn’t help but reimagine the cast if the movie were made in the ’90s.
The beginning of Black Panther takes place in Oakland, California, in the 1990s, but what if the entire movie took place in the ’90s?
Don’t worry, because Black Panther fans have you covered.
On Twitter, a user who aptly goes by the name of “de blek penta” started a thread imagining that very scenario.
The first on their list was Michael Jai White, who recently played Ben Turner/Bronze Tiger on Arrow. And then, the endless casting possibilities took off from there.
Twitter was pretty split on the role of T’Challa. Some thought a young Will Smith would have definitely gotten the role because come on, it’s the ’90s. Others thought Denzel Washington would be a great fit.
Surprisingly, Washington would have been younger than Chadwick Boseman if the movie were made in the early ’90s. Let that sink in for a moment.
Everyone pretty much agreed that Tupac Shakur would have made a great Erik Killmonger. And honestly, that just sounds perfect. The West Coast rapper had a few acting roles just before he died, so this movie would have been right up his alley.
All I would need is Tupac (Bishop from Juice 'Pac) as Killmonger. 🔥🔥🔥 Lol pic.twitter.com/d5yaP86Hod

Funny enough, Angela Basset was still popular enough in the ’90s that it seemed almost inevitable that she would have been cast in the ’90s version.
Angela Basset would’ve been T’Challa’s mom

And here are a few other fan castings that are just absolutely perfect. Jada Pinkett Smith as Shuri? Yes, please!
And Patrick Swayze as Klaw

So, when will time machines be invented so we can go back and make this movie? We love the original one, but we can’t help imagine how this throwback movie would have gone down.
Who would you cast in these totally tubular ’90s roles?
