Taylor Swift Song of the Week: “Shake It Off”

After taking a break from our Song of the Week, we are finallly back and ready to dance and shake off the haters just like Taylor Swift does.

If you didn’t guess it already than we’re about to tell you that our Song of the Week is the iconic dance song “Shake It Off,” the lead single from Swift’s No.1 record breaking album 1989. It’s fun, sassy, and perfect to kick off the month of April.

The song was written by Swift and Max Martin and Shellback and premiered during a live stream event on Yahoo when announcing her new album. It debuted at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart becoming Swift’s second No.1 single in the United States and the 22nd song to debut at No.1 in the charts history. According to Billboard, “Shake It Off” is Swift’s biggest Hot 100 hit to date, staying on the chart for 50 consecutive weeks.

Lyrically, the song is dedicated to Swift’s haters and the lessons she’s learned over the years that sometimes you just have to shake things off and not have a care in the world, which is what she does effortlessly in the music video for the song.

"With the song ‘Shake It Off,’ I really wanted to kind of take back the narrative, and have more of a sense of humor about people who kind of get under my skin — and not let them get under my skin. There’s a song that I wrote a couple years ago called “Mean,” where I addressed the same issue but I addressed it very differently. I said, “Why you gotta be so mean?,” from kind of a victimized perspective, which is how we all approach bullying or gossip when it happens to us for the first time. But in the last few years I’ve gotten better at just kind of laughing off things that absolutely have no bearing on my real life. I think it’s important to be self-aware about what people are saying about you, but even more so, be very aware of who you actually are, and to have that be the main priority. – Taylor Swift"

Visually, Swift portrayed the message of the song perfectly, as she danced like no one was watching and invited her fans to do the same. There is no puttng Swift down and she’s proved this with “Shake It Off”. Love the song? Watch the music video below:
