This week on Shadowhunters there’s double the mothers and another potentially awkward dinner, but what lies beneath the surface of the synopsis?
The Shadow World is dealing with a mess of problems, but this week’s Shadowhunters could bring answers — or more problems. Let’s recap what they’re dealing with, after just two episodes.
A greater demon is attacking the city’s ley lines and possessing people seemingly at random. Magnus’s father is a greater demon — though he’s been ruled out in this case. But it’s created a serious rift between Magnus and Lorenzo Rey, the new high warlock. Simon has a rune on his forehead that’s invisible until he’s attacked. Then it shows up in style. Jace is having horribly realistic nightmares about Clary’s brother.
In short: the Shadowhunters have a lot to figure out. But they’re working on it; here’s Freeform’s official synopsis for this week:
"The Shadowhunters try to track down the new imposing threat, while Jace has a suspicion that Jonathan is back and behind the mundane attacks. Simon tries to figure out what The Seelie Queen did to him during his time in the glade. Alec decides to host a Lightwood family dinner at Magnus’ house after a surprising visit from Maryse. (Guest starring Anna Hopkins and Javier Muñoz)"
Unfortunately, Will Tudor is not listed among the guest stars, so he likely won’t make his grand return just yet. But Lilith is hard at work over him, gathering her disciples while those at the Institute are still chasing their tails over her work.
While they deal with the mother of all demons, Magnus is pulling double duty — Alec’s mom is back this week. The good news is they seem to be at least a little less tense around each other.
