Harry Potter-inspired Wizard U returns to Michigan with just a few changes for the better

Make sure you’re in Detroit on June 16 for one of the biggest Harry Potter events of the year.

Wizard U may not be a real college, but it is a very real way for the Harry Potter fandom to connect. The Pottercon event in Detroit last year was such a success that there’s another event coming this year. There are a few changes, but they are definitely for the better.

June 16 is the date you need to put in your diary. Crofoot Ballroom, Pontiac is the place to put in your Sat Nav. You’re invited to attend the all-ages event of the season where you can even get your own butterbeer.

During Wizard U events, you get the chance to brew potions, learn spells, and even learn your defense against the dark arts—and there are no curses put on the teaching position here! If you’re interested in divination, there are classes for that too. And for those a little older, there’s even wizard pong to keep you entertained. It’s like a real college.

You’re encouraged to dress up as your favorite characters. Choose your favorite house (or the one Pottermore says you belong in) and take advantage of all the social events during the day. You’ll meet likeminded Potterheads, who just want to make friends and enjoy the classes they weren’t accepted to attend on their 11th birthday.

With it being an all-ages event, there will be younger children. However, there are usually rooms set up for those over 21 who want to experience college as its supposed to be.

There are other events throughout the country, but they do sell out extremely quickly. You will want to get your tickets fast for Detroit’s Wizard U, A New Semester Begins.
