We can’t let the 20th anniversary of the first Harry Potter novel just go by without a TV special.

When J.K. Rowling first wrote “Harry Potter,” she likely never even dreamed it would become what it is today. For the last 21 years (in the UK) and 20 years (in the U.S.), it has connected people from around the world and created a magical land that anyone can join.

It’s been 20 years since the first novel was published in the U.S., as “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” The CW doesn’t want that milestone to just disappear without recognition, so it’s putting on a 90-minute TV special next month. Now that the network has released the synopsis for all its shows from April 9, it’s time to delve into what to expect.

When is the Harry Potter 20th anniversary special?

Harry Potter: A History of Magic will air on Wednesday, April 11, 2018. Unlike most CW programming, the episode will be 90-minutes long.

This isn’t just a chance to celebrate the milestone, but also a chance to celebrate the British Library’s exhibition of the magical story. You get a chance to delve into the books’ history and how Rowling turned a magical idea into a huge international success. If you haven’t managed to see the artifacts in person yet, you’ll get to at least see the collection on the screen.

Rowling is opening up her private archive for the fans; drafts and drawings that have been hidden away for years. Don’t worry about trying to read quickly on screen. David Thewlis, Evanna Lynch, Warwick Davies, Miriam Margolyes and Mark Williams will all read extracts.

The whole production is narrated by Imelda Staunton.
