Fantastic Beasts star Eddie Redmayne pays tribute to Stephen Hawking

The Fantastic Beasts star has paid tribute to the world-renowned physicist, who he portrayed in The Theory Of Everything, following the sad news of the scientists passing at the age of 76.

Redmayne, who won an Oscar for his portrayal as Hawkings in the drama The Theory Of Everything in 2014, has paid tribute to the scientist after the news of his passing. News broke earlier today of the passing of Hawkings, the famed scientist who has been an inspiration and a visionary to many.

Hawkings praised Redmayne for his portrayal in the film. The film was about his life and the journey he has been on. From before he was diagnosed with ALS at the age of 22 and given two years to live and the road that he followed afterwards.

“A truly beautiful mind.”

Speaking to Deadline, Redmayne spoke after learning of Hawkings passing that: “We have lost a truly beautiful mind, an astonishing scientist and the funniest man I have ever had the pleasure to meet. My love and thoughts are with his extraordinary family.”

The famed British scientist reportedly died peacefully in his home in Cambridge, England.

His work, which involved black holes and relativity, was what made the scientist so famous but his fame did stretch out of the academic world.

Redmayne was not the only one to portray the scientist. Benedict Cumberbatch had also portrayed him in a BBC series drama and Hawkings himself has featured several times on the highly popular The Big Bang Theory. He also had stints on Red Dwarf and The Simpsons.

Tributes have poured in all over the world from the academic community to the entertainment industry, to country leaders and everyday folk. Hawkings made an impact on many and as Eddie Redmayne said, “We have lost a truly beautiful mind.”
