Harry Potter and the Cursed Child marquee unveiled ahead of theatre release
By Callum Gunn
If you were looking forward to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child hitting Broadway, the latest marquee reveal will add to that excitement.
Broadway is getting ready for the arrival of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in style, by setting up a 150-ft wing landmark. The marquee sits over the Lyric Theatre entrance, which is where J.K. Rowling’s two-part production will begin on March 16.
Already a huge success in London’s West End, the production tells the story of a now-adult Harry, whose sons deal with the shadow that Harry’s past has set over the family. Potter fans in New York and beyond have highly anticipated the arrival and this marquee is just adding to the excitement.

The 150-ft wing was created by Christine Jones and Brett J. Banakis, who serve as set designer and international scenic supervisor on the Broadway production respectively. The sign weighs a whopping 50,000lbs and drew inspiration from the logo for the play, which features a small child sitting in a winged nest.
Not only is the winged entrance exciting for Potterheads, but also for the whole of New York. The Lyric Theatre has gone through an extensive redesign, with the entrance moving. Once on West 42nd Street, the entrance will now be at the theatre’s exit on West 43rd Street. The change to the entrance meant that the theatre has had an extra 200ft visibility, which makes the marquee stand out even more.

There’s certainly no mistaking where theatre-goers will need to get to when they attend the production. It just adds to the beauty of Broadway and the heart of Times Square.
While the production will move to New York on March 16, it won’t officially open until April 22. Many of the original West End stars will reprise their roles, including Jamie Parker, Noma Dumezweni and Paul Thornley as Harry, Hermione and Ron respectively.
