Did you ever hear the theory that Ron is a time travelling Dumbledore?

It’s a debunked theory but still a fun one to look at.

It should be no surprise that there are plenty of Harry Potter theories out there on the internet. Some are just downright laughable; some have their merits and a rare few have some general intrigue.

Which category this theory falls into I am not sure but did you ever even hear of the theory that Ron is a time travelling Dumbledore? It’s a fan theory that first appeared some time ago, before the books were even completed, and has since been debunked but it still frequently pops up again and again and in truth, it is a fun theory.

The theory that Ron is a time travelling Dumbledore

So the theory goes that Ron lived out his life, married Hermione, had kids etc, etc. Then when he was much older he travelled back in time and became Albus Dumbledore. He then helped Harry as much as possible with what he learned when he was Ron.

It is a bit of a wacky theory and there is plenty of evidence out there to say why this is not possible but there is plenty of evidence to support the theory as well.

The resemblance is uncanny

First of all, they both have very similar descriptions in the books. Dumbledore has been described as having red hair in the past. They are both tall and thin and have long thin noses; Dumbledores is just a bit crooked from being broken. Dumbledore has also been described as having a scar on his left leg which fans of the time travelling theory believe is from when Sirius grabbed Ron in The Prisoner of Azkaban.

The sweet connection

Next, we have the sweetie connection. Both Dumbledore and Ron love their sweets. This was established with Ron within the first few moments of him meeting Harry. Dumbledores was established fairly on as well and continued with the constant use of sweets as the password the headmaster’s office.

There is also the issue of the Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans incident. Dumbledore admits that he lost the taste for them in his youth when eating a bogey-flavoured bean. If you do a quick bit of research on Dumbledores actual age and when the sweets were first made it turns out Dumbledore would have been in his hundreds when they first came out, not his youth.

This has led to the assumption that the only way Dumbledore was put off the sweets in his youth was if his youth was in the future.

The two barely interact

Ron and Dumbledore are rarely ever seen together. The very few times that they are together either Harry or Hermione are present, and even then the contact was minimal between them. Whereas Harry had plenty of contact with Dumbledore and so did Hermione.

This feeds the idea of the time travel because if Dumbledore was truly Ron from the future then it would make sense for him to avoid Ron as much as possible. Any time traveller will tell you to avoid meeting your past self.

It’s Dumbledore, nothing gets passed him

And of course, there is the fact that Dumbledore just knew everything. No matter what the trio got up to, Dumbledore just knew. How? Because he is Ron from the future and has already done it.

These are just a few of the minor details that fans have noticed to make connections to the theory there are plenty of other connections that back up the theory. But, none of that mattered in the end when J.K. Rowling came out to clear a few things up.

She tweeted, making it official, that Ron is not a time travelling Dumbledore. Nevertheless, the theory is a good one and most importantly, a well thought out one. This is probably why the theory continues to pop up, again and again, and again.
