Grace and Frankie season 5: 5 more guest stars we’d love to see

RuPaul is a great start, but we have so many guest star suggestions for next season of Grace and Frankie!

Just when we thought Netflix’s endearing comedy Grace and Frankie couldn’t get any better, it decides to bring in the Supermodel of the World.

After it was announced that the series was renewed for a fifth season on Feb. 14, Emmy-winner RuPaul tweeted at the show’s star Jane Fonda, asking if the show was getting a new season. Fonda replied, “Yup, 2019. You want in??” Well, it turns out, the casting wheels were already turning!

That’s right, according to TVLine, RuPaul will guest-star on Grace and Frankie as Benjamin Le Day, a “formidable and quick-witted adversary” to Fonda and Lily Tomlin’s lead characters.

With such a huge guest star announcement, and after including beloved Friends alum Lisa Kudrow on the most recent season as manicurist Sheree, we started thinking about what other stars we would love to see on the show. From Golden Girls to Netflix stars, there are a few people we would love to see hash it out with the bold women of Grace and Frankie.

Betty White

This is probably the most obvious choice. Who doesn’t remember Betty White as the lovingly-dimwitted Rose Nylund on the classic TV sitcom The Golden Girls?

She was hilarious, and she has proven time and time again over the years that she has just gotten funnier and more unapologetic with age. That’s why people can’t get enough of her.

The 96-year-old could easily find her footing on the Netflix show, which is basically Golden Girls for the modern era. Fonda and Tomlin are both strong-willed, hilarious older women themselves, so White could maybe play an old friend, an adversary, or really anybody.

We just want her back in our lives! Just imagine how side-splittingly funny those three bombshell women would be together. I don’t know if we’re ready for it, honestly. Maybe that’s the real reason she hasn’t made an appearance. Netflix is just thinking of our poor, weak hearts exploding with joy.

Anyway, where can we sign a petition to get Betty White on season 5?

Tituss Burgess

If Netflix wanted to stay within its own community, then who better to cast than Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt‘s Tituss Burgess? Kimmy’s outrageous roommate (named Titus, very different from Tituss) is one of the best parts of the hit show, because he’s absolutely ridiculous — and we love it.

Titus is oblivious and loosely interprets the reality around him, and that’s what makes him so endearing. Plus, he gets all the best one-liners.

Obviously, Burgess wouldn’t play the same character if he appeared on Grace and Frankie, but if he played someone similar to that role, we’d be happy. Maybe he’d be a sassy new neighbor, or a hairdresser, or a nurse (you know, the usual sassy gay stereotypical roles), but whoever he plays has to be completely over the top, dramatic, and hilarious.

Could you imagine his flamboyance paired with Fonda’s refined demeanor? Or what if Burgess was a new friend of Sol and Robert? The possibilities are endless!

Reese Witherspoon

In 2017, TV was flooded with a steady stream of movie stars making their way to television shows. Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon appeared on Big Little Lies, which became a breakout hit and earned a whopping 16 Emmy Award nominations, including an Outstanding Lead Actress nom for Witherspoon.

We already knew she was great — she’s Elle Woods — but playing a tightly-wound suburban mom fit her perfectly. She was the type of character you wanted to love, but honestly, she was kind of terrible.

But unlike Laura Dern’s character Renata, you still found yourself rooting for Madeline. And that type of character would work on Grace and Frankie.

Could you imagine her playing a suburban mom feuding with Grace’s daughters Brianna and Mallory? Brianna is an absolute firecracker, so pairing her with a tightly-wound Witherspoon would be laugh-out-loud funny.

And Grace, as poised as she is, would probably hate a character like Madeline from Big Little Lies, mostly because of their similarities, so that would no doubt lead to many hijinx.

Kate McKinnon

The obvious reason: Kate McKinnon is hilarious, period. The not-so obvious: she and Lily Tomlin actually have a link to each other. No, not because they’re both openly lesbian, though that’s great, but because they once played sisters.

That’s right, they are both Miss Frizzle on The Magic School Bus Rides Again! Tomlin played the childhood favorite on the original series, The Magic School Bus, from 1994 to 1997, and reprised her role briefly on the new Netflix series (that’s right, Netflix!) to introduce the class to her sister, Miss Fiona Frizzle.

Now, the age difference between the two actresses in real life may be difficult for them to portray sisters on Grace and Frankie, but who knows what kind of wacky storyline the writers could come up with to make it work.

McKinnon is hilarious, and we also know she’s a great character actress, as demonstrated by her years on Saturday Night Live. Even if she doesn’t play Frankie’s much younger sister, she could play pretty much anyone else.

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez is a multi-talented woman. Not only has she starred in hits like Selena and Maid in Manhattan, but she also stars on her own NBC cop drama Shades of Blue. She can do serious, or she can do funny.

Not to mention, there was a little movie named Monster-in-Law starring J.Lo and none other than Jane Fonda. Fonda played the tightly-wound talk show host who feels threatened when her son brings home his new beautiful, bohemian girlfriend, played by J.Lo. Hilarity ensues, with plenty of slapstick gags and catty comments.

The chemistry between the two was palpable, and getting them back together would be magic.

Picture this: Frankie brings home a friend from some yoga class or arts fair or some other hippie thing she attends, and it’s Jennifer Lopez. Naturally, Grace hates her, and maybe even feels threatened by how close the two are getting. Maybe she tries to get this new woman out of their lives with some wild antics.

It could totally work!
