When Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone first came out back in 2001 it was the beginning of a new era. It brought in a whole new generation of Harry Potter fans and it took the fandom to an all new level.

You would have thought that after all this time and with so many fans devoted to the magical world we would have learned everything we could by now. But we haven’t, we are still learning new and amazing things every day on how Harry Potter was created.

More from Harry Potter

From who starred in what, who was involved in what and how things were created. The magic of Harry Potter will continue for years and years and we will probably still be learning new things when we are old and grey.

So let’s take a look at those who starred in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Some of the stars you may have forgotten about and some you may have never realised were in Harry Potter at all. So without further ado here are 11 stars you forgot were in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

John Cleese

Playing the Gryffindor house ghost Nearly Headless Nick, or as he was known before his execution, Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington. Cleese first appeared in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone as the Gryffindor ghost when Harry and Ron arrived at Hogwarts for the very first time.

The ghost whose head remains attached despite taking forty-five hacks to the head was always one of the friendlier ghosts of the castle who would happily help students to where they needed to be. Cleese was a perfect choice for the role and appeared in a later Harry Potter movie as well.

Luke Youngblood

The friend of Fred and George Weasley and Hogwarts Quidditch commentator. Luke Youngblood starred as Lee Jordan in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

After his time at Hogwarts Youngblood went on to star in several TV series. He has starred in The Story of Tracy Beaker as Ben, Community as Magnitude and Galavant as Sid.

Mark Ballas

The Dancing With the Stars pro had a brief appearance in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. It is an uncredited role but nevertheless, he is still there. Playing a Hufflepuff, Ballas has been quoted as saying he wished he had been a Gryffindor or Slytherin but at least he was in the movie holding Owls and stuff.

Derek and Julianne Hough

A brother and sister pair featured in the first Harry Potter movie. The two attended a performing arts school during the time of filming and were able to be cast as extras. Both are uncredited appearances but Derek played a Ravenclaw and was in the same scene where Ron and Harry are playing wizarding chess. Julianne played a Gryffindor. Derek is a Dancing With the Stars professional alongside Mark Ballas and Julianne has featured on Live With Kelly.

Alfred Enoch

Enoch played the role of Dean Thomas. First appearing in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Enoch appeared in several of the other Harry Potter movies as well. Dean is one of Harry’s dormitory roommates in Gryffindor. He also dated Ginny Weasley for some time and played alongside Harry on the house Quidditch team as chaser.

After Harry Potter came to an end, Enoch disappeared for some time. When he returned to TV he made guest appearances in Sherlock and Broadchurch but is now widely known for his role on How to Get Away With Murder as Wes Gibson. He is currently filming on the project Troy: Fall of a City.

Verne Troyer

Well known for his performance as Mini-Me in the Austin Powers franchise. Troyer appeared as Griphook the Goblin in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Griphook was the Goblin that escorted Harry to his vault when he visited Gringotts for the very first time along with Hagrid. Griphook also featured in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows but Troyer did not reprise his role. Instead, Warwick Davis played the role of Griphook.

Zoe Sugg

More commonly known as Zoella. The English beauty vlogger and YouTuber had an uncredited appearance in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Her appearance can be put down as ‘the girl in the Potions class’ but her appearance was ultimately cut from the finished product so you can only catch her in the extended scenes.

Zoe hasn’t followed the acting path since her appearance but she certainly isn’t camera shy as her popularity as a YouTuber is growing.

Fiona Shaw

One of the least loved characters in Harry Potter, Shaw played the role of Aunt Petunia. Appearing in the first Harry Potter Shaw returned to play the role of Petunia Dursley throughout the franchise.

Shaw has appeared in numerous projects ever since her time as the evil aunt. She has appeared in the TV series True Blood, Channel Zero, Emerald City and Killing Eve.

Warwick Davis

Playing multiple roles in the Harry Potter franchise. Davis appeared in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone as Charm class Professor, Professor Flitwick. Davis is also credited as the Goblin Bank Teller for the movie as well. He does later appear as Griphook in the later Harry Potter movies, originally played by Verne Troyer.

Davis has appeared in so many movies now that it is hard to find a franchise he has not been involved with. His most recent project Solo: A Star Wars Movie has now moved into the post-production phase.

Ian Hart

The first time Harry met Voldemort face to face it was on the back of Professor Quirrell’s head, or technically Ian Hart’s head. Things didn’t end too well for the stuttering Defence Against the Dark Arts Teacher thanks to the spell left by Lily Potter.

Hart had one of the shortest stints in Harry Potter as he only ever appeared in the first movie. His time after Potter has been anything but quiet, however. Starring in numerous TV series year after year in recurring roles he has remained a busy man.

Hart is currently working on the BBC project The Last Kingdom where he plays the role of a priest called Beocca. You can barely tell it is the former Hogwarts professor playing the role which goes to show just how good of an actor Hart is.
