By Callum Gunn
He Who Must Not Be Named is coming to The Gifted
Fox’s The Gifted, has just wrapped up with its debut season but attention is already being drawn to the next. The series, set in the X-Men universe, follows the lives of what is a normal suburban family until the children discover that they have mutant powers.
In this world, mutant powers are viewed as hostile and a threat to the government. Forces and organisations are in place to “protect” themselves from the mutant threat. So when this family discovers that their children have mutant abilities they go on the run before the government can find them.

The Gifted’s Voldemort
As the season went on more and more characters were introduced and plots were developed. Polaris has had one of the most significant plot developments and is the character that The Gifted’s Voldemort scenario surrounds. Polaris, who is able to control and manipulate magnetism, is the daughter of Legendary X-Men villain Magneto.
She appears unaware of her parentage at the start of the season. As time went on, more and more pieces of the puzzle began to click with who Polaris’s dad actually is and by the end of the season it was obvious.

So with that, fans have wondered will the Polaris Magneto story come up in season 2. Another big thing that fans have been wondering is why Magneto has not been referred to by name in season 1. Only references and hints have been mentioned, the actual M word has never been said.
Matt Nix, showrunner for The Gifted, spoke to TVLine about the refusal to call him by his name. While explaining the reasoning behind it all, he chooses the best possible explanation ever by making a reference to Harry Potter. Nix used this example just perfect to highlight that Magneto is no ordinary mutant but an actual force to be reckoned with. Someone who is able to strike fear into anyone by just the mere mention of his name.
"“There’s a little Voldemort to it, if that makes sense!”"
