John Williams composed the music for the first three Harry Potter movies, but which was his best?
The music composed for a movie can be the difference between creating a successful movie and creating a flop. Movies like Star Wars, Gladiator, Lord of the Rings and La La Land all have great music to accompany them.
John Williams has been composing music for many, many years now. He has created amazing musical scores for Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List and many more. So it was no surprise when Williams was brought in to compose the music for the first three Harry Potter movies. The Philosophers’ Stone, The Chamber of Secrets and The Prisoner of Azkaban.

Ranking the music of John William’s
At number 3, Harry Potter and the Chamber of secrets.
John Williams second time composing the music for Harry Potter. After setting the bar so high after Harry Potter and the Philosophers’ Stone it was no surprise that the music did not hold up as well. Nevertheless, it was still a beautiful composition that was put together.
Along with the conductor William Ross, the two created wonderful music together. The most notable being when Fawkes the Phoenix carries Harry, Ron, Ginny and Professor Lockhart out of the Chamber of Secrets.
At Number 2, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
William’s third, and final time as composer. Harry Potter the Prisoner of Azkaban showed off how William’s is able to make something feel much bigger and more amazing than what it really is.
Harry flying on the Hippogriff Buckbeak for the very first time was an iconic moment. It was an iconic moment in the books so when it came to the movies they had to make it just as iconic. William’s achieved that with his soundtrack for that scene. He turned a scene that is nothing more than Harry riding on the back of Buckbeak and ripping of Titanic, into a magical and memorable moment.

Did you honestly think it would be anything else?
There are just too many tracks from the first movie to choose from. The Mirror of Erised, A Change of Season, Leaving Hogwarts, Christmas at Hogwarts, Quidditch, Hedwig’s Theme. The list goes on and on. Williams created, short but thrilling, innocent but cheery and even sad but beautiful. As the filmmakers created the magic visually, Williams magnified it musically.
