Jennifer Garner headed to HBO for new comedy series

Easily one of the most adorable celebrities in Hollywood, Jennifer Garner will be gracing our screens on a more consistent basis in a new HBO comedy series.

Calling all Jennifer Garner fans!

Whether you know her from Alias, loved her in 13 Going on 30 or hated her take on Elektra, don’t try to deny the Jennifer Garner charisma. Even with her string of wholesome ‘cool mom’ roles and independent dramas of recent years, she mostly stays out of the spotlight until her ex-husband Ben Affleck does something.

But that’s all going to change now, apparently, as Garner pivots from movies to television. Her new role will be in a new comedy series for HBO, entitled Camping.

According to the description provided by Entertainment Weekly, the show goes like this:

"Walt’s 45th birthday was supposed to be a delightful weekend back to nature, at least according to his obsessively organized and aggressively controlling wife Kathryn (Garner). But when the camping trip gathers Kathryn’s meek sister, holier than thou ex-best friend and a free-spirited Tagalong in one place, it becomes a weekend of tested marriages and woman on woman crime that won’t soon be forgotten.  Plus, bears."

Good news: Big Little Lies did a lot for HBO and everyone involved. In fact, the material was so strong, it attracted Reese Witherspoon and Meryl Streep.

Bad news: Camping will be written and executive-produced by Lena Dunham, whose Girls influence has pretty much petered out. Nowadays, she just feels like a problematic Hollywood entity.

If you have seen Butter, this role sounds like the same one Garner played in that film. It features an incredible cast, of course. But Garner sticks out thanks to the same “restraint and comedic timing” that Dunham describes was necessary for the role.

It goes without saying that TV is basically the place to be right now. I mean, even Jennifer Aniston will return soon. HBO, specifically, can boast about the success of Game of Thrones and Big Little Lies.

However, it may also be the only place that can get once-great TV stars to come back.
