Fantastic Beasts movies to take place across different cities, but which cities could that be?

The Fantastic Beasts franchise is set to continue exploring the world so where could the movies go next?

When it was announced that Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was coming to theatres it was an exciting time for everyone. To be able to see what the wizarding world was like overseas for the very first time became a highly anticipated moment for everyone.

References to international communities of witches and wizards are in both the books and films so that anticipation was not that surprising. It still did nothing in the ways of preparation for seeing it, on screen, for the very first time. Now with the sequel Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald being set in Paris that excitement is once again back.

But it gets even better as now we have learned that the entire Fantastic Beast franchises are to take place in a different city with each new film. So the question to ask now is where? Which cities are we going to visit and see?

David Yates breaks the news

Director David Yates was the one to break the news. When speaking to Entertainment Weekly he confirmed that with each new film will come a new city;

"“Yes,” Yates replied when asked if each film is set in a different city. “Jo’s already told us where the next one is taking place. It’s very exciting. This is a global story, ultimately. And given that there’s a global audience for this, it’s all the more delightful to take the story to different parts of the world.”"

That means we have three new cities to visit over the next three movies but which cities could they possibly be heading to?

What cities could Fantastic Beasts visit?

The most obvious city that Fantastic Beasts could travel to is one in Germany, possibly Nuremberg. With all the connections with World War II and Grindelwald, it would be a very likely destination for the franchise. The prison which Grindelwald built to contain his enemies, Nurmengard, is supposedly based on the German city of Nuremberg. All of this makes Germany a likely host at some point in the series.

Asia is also a high possibility. Which city they could possibly visit in Asia is really anybody’s guess but somewhere in Japan would be a good bet with as the wizarding school of Mahoutokoro is located in the country. And with all the magical culture and history in the continent, it would be very surprising if the series did not visit the area.

What the third possible location could be is a tough one. There are no other places that are referenced to as much as the other two possibilities. It would make sense for the franchise to go to any city where one of the international wizarding schools exist, Drumstrang (Northern Europe), Uagadou (Africa), etc. They could also return to a different city in America or Great Britain as well.

But whatever city they do choose it will be a great thing to see the magical world change and differ as they travel across the world.
