What did she do this time? 4 burning questions about Jessica Jones season 2

facebooktwitterreddit

Five new images from Jessica Jones’ much-anticipated second season have landed and, man, we have a lot to talk about before March 8.

In just over five weeks Jessica Jones season 2 will finally arrive. In the grand scheme of things — and considering that season 1 debuted more than two years ago — that’s no time at all. But it sure feels like forever, which is probably because Jessica Jones’ subject matter is almost uncannily prescient due to #MeToo and #TimesUp. The series, created by Twilight screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, centers on the titular private eye, who is also a sexual assault survivor suffering from PTSD.

Despite the show’s timeliness, the entire month of February still stands between us and season 2. On the bright side, Netflix has released five new images from the upcoming batch of episodes to tide us over — and my imagination is running wild. (That’s what pictures with no context will do to you.) Here are just a few of the questions that came to mind:

Uh-oh, what did Jessica do this time?

As “AKA Top Shelf Perverts” proved, Jessica (Krysten Ritter) isn’t afraid to sacrifice herself to protect those in need. Ergo, it’s perfectly possible that she meant to end up in jail. However, judging from the bandages on her right hand, I’m guessing the super strong Jessica went medieval on someone and a cop witnessed it. Also, we know her abuser, Kilgrave (David Tennant), will appear in one form or another this season. Perhaps Jessica thought she was beating him to a pulp (again)?

Is Jeri Hogarth actually having a crisis of conscience?

Jessica’s occasional employer and lawyer (Carrie-Anne Moss) looks pretty stricken in this image. Is Jeri actually feeling regret about manipulating Pam, her lover, into killing Wendy, her wife? Jeri is a fairly cold, analytical person — not much ruffles her feathers, which is why she’s a great lawyer. But something obviously isn’t sitting right with her here.

Will season 2 see Trish become Hellcat?

In the comic books, Trish, Jessica’s foster-sister and close friend, eventually becomes Hellcat. While Trish (Rachael Taylor) didn’t mention anything about a sixth sense or “demon sight” in Jessica Jones season 1, she was dedicated to making herself as physically strong and capable as possible. She seems to be continuing that trend in season 2. I’m not a fangirl myself, but it would be interesting if Jessica Jones added another superheroine to its story. Even if it doesn’t, I want to watch Trish use her martial arts skills on the series’ villains.

Okay, who said something stupid to Jessica?

Oh, I know that look. I’ve given that look. Somebody obviously made some idiotic remark or another in Jessica’s presence. My money’s on Trish’s mother, Dorothy (Rebecca De Mornay).
