Making ‘bloody moves’: Cardi B ties Billboard record with Beyoncé
By Buckie Wells
With four songs in the Top 10, Cardi B smashes Billboard records for women everywhere and puts herself in league with Beyoncé.
Though Cardi B was out there, she didn’t officially arrive on the scene until “Bodak Yellow,” a song that made her only the second female rapper in 19 years to have a solo leading the Billboard charts. That song was everywhere, and on it, Cardi B asked if anyone was working as hard as her and mentioned that she put out two mixtapes in six months.
She released “Bodak Yellow” in June 2017. Six months later, she’s got a lot more than two mixtapes out there. Now, she’s got four songs in the Top 10 on the Billboard charts, and the only other woman who’s pulled that off before is Beyoncé.
The only reason that’s an interesting comparison is because Beyoncé is regarded as a legend. But she’s not a rapper, so to have someone like Cardi B come out from Love and Hip-Hop, start hustlin’ and pull off this feat in just six months is remarkable.
And “Finesse (Remix)” aside, Cardi B always keeps it real. It’s her humor and relatability that make her way more interesting than Beyoncé in my book. Cardi B makes herself feel accessible. Her Instagram videos, in particular, demonstrate her authenticity. See: the case of the missing purple blanket, her candid views on entertainers, and my personal favorite, charger thieves.
As funny as Cardi B can be, EW also included Cardi B’s admittance that she was going to open up more in the future. While speaking with Beats 1 Radio, she said:
"[She could] really make a song of hurt because I’ve been hurt by a lot of men. I’m talking about, like, how sad I be when a dude curves me, and I never talk about s— like [that] because I refuse to let people know that I get sad when a man don’t answer my calls."
So, if Cardi B wants to try her hand at a Lemonade-esque album (even though she and Offset only just got engaged), I’m all ears.

Congratulations, Cardi. “Bodak Yellow” came out six months ago and still sits in the Top 10, along with her other songs “No Limit,” “Motorsport” and “Bartier Cardi.”
