The best reunions that happened at the Golden Globes

The 75th Golden Globes were filled with incredible speeches, starstruck celebs and inspiring solidarity. But don’t think certain reunions got by unnoticed.

The beauty of awards season is that it highlights the amazing stories told through film and television. But more importantly, it puts all your favorite celebs in one room.

More often than not, these stars have worked together on previous projects. As a result, the show treats fans to the reunions of some of their most beloved characters. The 75th Golden Globes, which aired on NBC on Jan. 7, 2018, brought about some of the best reunions yet.

Some were forever immortalized with a photo, and some tragically weren’t. But knowing that they happened at all isn’t a bad way to start 2018. We’ve rounded up some of the best of the night, in case you missed them.

The Fault In Our Stars/Divergent

Augustus Waters and Hazel Grace reunited at the Globes and it was glorious. Okay? Okay.

Ansel Elgort was nominated for his performance in Baby Driver, while Shailene Woodley was nominated for her role in Big Little Lies. Sadly, neither of them won — Elgort lost to James Franco, and Woodley lost to her costar Laura Dern (so really, did anyone actually lose).

Both were all smiles in taking the reunion photo though, snuggling up close.

The night was actually a double reunion for the actors, given that they were both in the Divergent movie franchise. To complete the set even more, Zoe Kravitz was also in attendance. She starred as Tris’ best friend Christina in the films, and is currently Woodley’s costar in Big Little Lies.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that the actors documented this reunion, but they were all together and that’s what counts.

Harry Potter

Be still my Hufflepuff heart, Cedric Diggory is hanging out with Hermione Granger. The Golden Globes reunited two of Hogwarts’ best and the Internet just about lost its mind.

Emma Watson and Robert Pattinson were teamed up to present the award for the best limited series or TV movie. (In case you missed the winner because you were fangirling over the presenters, it went to Big Little Lies.)

It’s been 13 years since Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire came out, which is about the age HP fans reverted to upon seeing the actors on stage together.

The room seemed to be filled with magic, because Padfoot and Moony were there too. Gary Oldman — aka Sirius Black — took home his first Golden Globe, winning best actor in a drama. David Thewlis, known to Potterheads as Remus Lupin, was nominated as best supporting actor for his role in Fargo.

Even Snape would approve of this gathering.

Thelma and Louise

Seth Meyers pulled no punches with his jokes as host, though one of his best came late in the show.  He saw the opportunity and he took it, saying “Our next presenters had the chance to do what we’ve all wanted to do this past year: Drive our car off a cliff.”

Out came Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon, giving fans the Thelma and Louise reunion they weren’t even sure they needed. As Sarandon noted, it’s been 25 years since the release of their iconic film and, well, not everything is fixed.

Staying true to the cause, the actresses touched on the wage gap in Hollywood as they presented the award for Best Actor in the drama category. Check out the full bit:

The Huntsman: Winter’s War

The story of Snow White is a classic. But her Huntsman found popularity when the role was given to Chris Hemsworth. In fact, the character was so successful that the sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman focused on the latter.

Who can top the fierceness of the Huntsman? Easy. Jessica Chastain. She was cast as Sara, the badass Huntswoman separated from her true love in The Huntsman: Winter’s War. In the end, the two come back together, and it happened again at the Golden Globes.

Chastain and Hemsworth presented the award for best actress in a motion picture — musical or comedy. It was a much lighter dynamic for the two, but wonderful all the same.

Star Wars

Arguably the best zing of the night didn’t come from Seth Meyers, but from Natalie Portman. All it took was two words: “All male.”

She and Ron Howard presented the award for best director, a category that had, count ’em, zero female nominees. Greta Gerwig was notably snubbed, despite her film going on to win the Golden Globe for best motion picture — musical or comedy.

The pairing of Portman and Howard was particularly interesting given both of their involvement with the Star Wars franchise. Portman played Padmé Amidala in the prequels, and Ron Howard is the director of the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story.

The Force was even stronger at the Globes, considering Obi-Wan Kenobi was there too. Ewan McGregor took home the award for best actor in a mini-series for his work in Fargo. No images of Portman and McGregor have surfaced, but Portman did just join Instagram. So, fingers crossed.

Honorable Mention – Thor

Sure, Chris Hemsworth was paired with Jessica Chastain, but she wasn’t his only movie love interest in the room. It’s easy to forget, but Jane and Thor were together at the Globes too.

It makes sense that the two weren’t photographed together, given how Jane’s character has been all but completely written out in the MCU. Portman has also made it clear in the past that she wasn’t thrilled about how things went down with Dark World.

The writing of Jane is still a point of contention with Marvel fans, but the idea of Jane and Thor together again is still a minor warm-and-fuzzy.

There are undoubtedly more reunions that came about at the Golden Globes, and hopefully photos will surface of them too (Amy Poehler and Aziz Ansari, anyone?). With all the revivals on the way — even stars of Roseanne got a moment on stage — seeing fan-favorites together again is becoming more and more likely.
