Best moments from the One Day at a Time season 2 trailer

One Day at a Time will debut its second season at the end of this month and we got our first full-length trailer this week, and here are the best moments.

First things first: If you haven’t watched the first season of One Day at a Time on Netflix yet, please do so. Sure, it’s a remake. But it’s also a sweet show that focuses on a Cuban family with stellar representation and even better performances from a cast that includes Rita Moreno. It deals with sexuality, PTSD, religion and pretty much everything else life could throw at you without ever making you feel like you’re still steeped in the reality of your own day to day life.

It’s really just a well-written treasure and I’m so excited for season 2 to debut. Like other fans, I pretty much freaked out as soon as this trailer dropped. It almost felt like seeing my own family again, with the added excitement of Alex’s new haircut and heavier topics like xenophobia.

The entire two minutes were filled with amazing moments, but here are some of my favorites:

“The Stallion”

They saved this right until the end, but it was great. In the first season, we saw how hard it was for Penelope to get back in the dating game, and how devastated she was to see the kids’ father, Victor Alvarez, fall into his old ways. I’m glad to see her branch out and even feel ready to bring home her boyfriend.

But I’m especially glad to see Abuelita give her two-sense immediately. Also, that dude is huge.

“Depression and anxiety”

The best parts of the show happen to be how it tackles big issues. Each episode is only 20-something minutes long, so it’s not like they have a ton of room to have long arcs. Yet, each episode felt extremely poignant. In fact, the best performance of the premiere season was Justina Machado’s breakdown in episode 6, “The Death of Mrs. Resnick.” Throughout the series, Penelope, an army veteran, struggles with depression, single motherhood, and basically, everything and anything else because she’s human. But her resilience and openness with her two children are what make the show so special.

Elena

Basically, everything Elena. But especially in a suit or any sort of cosplay. And especially Elena with a girlfriend or any sort of friend (because I quite enjoyed her time with Carmen). Elena’s journey was mesmerizing in season one and her growth moving forward will likely be one of the emotional cruxes of the show.

Here’s the full trailer again for anyone who hasn’t seen it or just wants to see it again:
