Should we trust DC Entertainment when it comes to Wonder Woman 2?

There is talk about the Wonder Woman sequel and it might not be what you want to hear, especially since it is could be completely different.

Loved Wonder Woman? Are you excited about the sequel? Well, maybe hold off on that excitement. I’d like to start this by saying that I trust Patty Jenkins a lot. She is incredible and one of my favorite directors. But her comments about the sequel to one of the highest grossing movies of 2017 has left me worried.

When it comes to the DC Extended Universe, there’s much to be desired. In a world dominated by Marvel, it can be hard to make your characters stand out and not just be a continuation of the same stories over and over again. So in a way to try and flip the script, DC has continually attempted to stand out.

I say “attempted” because the only movie that has, in fact, stood out so far has been Wonder Woman. So why are Jenkins’s comments so scary? Because at the Palm Springs Film Festival, she said that the sequel is going to have a completely different feel.

Which, why? You gave us something that worked with Wonder Woman, so why is DC so afraid to continue to go down that path? Do you want to know why the Captain America movies work? Because they are all cohesive. They flow.

The DC Extended Universe seems to be afraid to have its movies talk to each other and make the series, in fact, a series. Instead, it keeps producing lackluster movies that don’t relate to the audience — except for Wonder Woman, which felt like a standalone piece.

So am I excited to see the sequel? Of course. As I said, I trust Patty Jenkins. But with rumors that Lynda Carter will be there and that it isn’t going to be like the first, I just worry that the DCEU got the wrong message about what we liked about Wonder Woman and that it’s going to tank the only good thing about their films.
