Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers: Roles and returns

More small pieces of Game of Thrones season 8 are falling into place as the new year begins, even as the wait continues for the actual season itself.

Happy new year, Game of Thrones fans, and welcome to the Long Night of the fandom, metaphorically speaking. But there are still stories to pass the time, like this set of casting choices from our sister site, Winter is Coming.

Essentially, the more important of the two is that there’s another actor joining the cast. As WiC points out, Seamus O’Hara will have more than one episode according to his Spotlight resume, but here are a few more details. According to that same resume, his voice is both “deep” and “authoritative,” and he can play characters up to 35 and all the way down to 24.

There aren’t any details, and although WiC speculates even the name listed, “Fergus,” is not his character’s name. We’re not so sure either way, but there are a couple places that he could land.

We know that the Golden Company will make an appearance — or at least its leader — so it’s possible that WiC’s guess that “Fergus” is a man from the Riverlands is correct. As the Game of Thrones fan wiki states, the books include a Tristan Rivers as a member of the Golden Company, as well as two other knights.

That same fan wiki also reminds us that the books have painted Harry Strickland, the leader of the Company, as someone who doesn’t do much in the way of fighting. And while there’s no way to know from the Spotlight page if O’Hara has any stage fighting combat experience, the “authoritative” and “deep” voice tones suggest he could be playing a warrior — as does his listed height of 6’1″.

As for the second casting choice, WiC also tells us that Megan Parkinson as Alys Karstark is back. Like O’Hara’s page, however, her resume doesn’t specify who her season 8 director (or directors) are, and it’s harder to know how long she’s booked for because her resume lists both seasons of the show together.
