There are definitely more Star Wars anthologies in the works, but somehow, it doesn’t seem like Storm: A Star Wars Indie will be among them.
Is it any surprise that Funny or Die would release a Star Wars-themed video, or that The Hollywood Reporter would pick it up, or that we here at Culturess would find it and watch it, but ultimately end up vaguely disappointed?
We suppose the humor of the purported Storm: A Star Wars Indie comes from the fact that it’s really not the kind of film the Star Wars series would ever turn out — a story of how one Stormtrooper and a Rodian found each other. The only problem is that we’ve seen this movie before, in the sense that absolutely no one in the movie really wants these people to get together, and, in fact, we’ve seen it twice.
Yes, we’re referring to Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, only one half of this tragic couple this has a little ukulele (though he does do the shirtless thing) and the other half is a Rodian (you know, Greedo’s species). Just swap in mentions of the Jedi code for mentions of their being different species and you basically have this “movie”.
In the sense that it’s definitely parodying the fact that Star Wars as a franchise will basically never die, it is a bit more humorous and pointed. (It’s right there in the description of the video on YouTube, which says:
"Don’t miss the latest in the new Star Wars Indie series and a film that begs the question, “Why can’t all movies be set in the Star Wars universe?”"
To which we respond: “We already did this, Funny or Die, and yet here we are, excited for The Last Jedi.”
Which we are, in fact.
You can watch the “trailer” for Storm below, with a warning that its language is not safe for work:

We also appreciate the terrible puns and fake reviews, since they sound … well, okay, slightly too punny to work, but are also still funny.
