Time magazine announced their Person of the Year on this morning’s episode of the Today show and during the episode, it was revealed that there is more than one person of 2017.

Rather than chose just one man or woman as the 2017 Person of the Year, Time chose to honor the “Silence Breakers,” including Alyssa Milano and Taylor Swift, on the highly anticipated issue of their publication, which applauded the women for launching a movement.

What did Taylor Swift do for women?

As fans of Swift will recall, she made headlines throughout the year for suing a former DJ from Denver, David Mueller, who she claimed groped her during a backstage meet and greet in 2013.

After the case went to trial, Swift was given a $1 million payout, which she chose to donate to charity, and the case quickly prompted other women to come forward with their own claims of sexual assault and abuse. Months later, the #MeToo movement was launched on Twitter and was quickly deemed as one of the most popular social media campaigns of the year.

Taylor Swift is applauded for breaking her silence about her sexual assault

Below is a statement from Time magazine, via Us Weekly magazine, in regard to their latest cover

"“The people who have broken their silence on sexual assault and harassment span all races, all income classes, all occupations and virtually all corners of the globe… Their collective anger has spurred immediate and shocking results. For their influence on 2017, they are TIME’s Person of the Year.”"

In addition to Swift, several other women were honored for going public with their experiences, including Tarana Burke and Rose McGowan.

Runner-ups for Time magazine’s Person of the Year title included Kim Jong Un, Robert Mueller, Patty Jenkins, Colin Kaepernick, Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump, who came in second place.
