From the beautiful beaches to the Happiest Place on Earth, why does Florida have so many most “sinful” cities?

Recently, WalletHub.com released its annual “most sinful cities” list. While Las Vegas is the most sinful city based on its findings, the more concerning finding is that three of the top 10 sinful cities are located in Florida. Why is the Sunshine State filled with sinful cities?

According to the WalletHub study, Orlando ranks number two on the most sinful cities list. Also, Miami ranks third and Tampa ranks ninth. Why are so many Florida cities ranking so high on this list? It has to do with the amounts of vices found in the area.

Researchers compiled data on 180 U.S. cities and used 32 indicators that correlated to the seven deadly sins (greed, lust, envy, etc.). Based on the data, WalletHub created this list. But how can the Florida, the vacation-friendly state, have so many high ranking cities on this list?

When people go on vacation, the daily grind is forgotten. Whether it is the extra scoop of ice cream or a beer with lunch, the norm is replaced with vacation mode. Unfortunately that excess isn’t necessarily the best choice. Just think about all the extra time in the gym or days of less eating after all the excess. All those sins aren’t just forgotten.

Although people look at vacations as a way to escape, does that escapism lead to poor choices? Sure, a theme park with its extreme rides and adrenaline thrills are designed to make guests forget about their problems. Who can’t help but smile when you see Cinderella’s Castle or hum “It’s a Small World” incessantly for hours? For a few hours, maybe even days, there is only fun, frivolity and maybe a little excess. Can that all be bad?

So Florida may have three high ranking sinful cities on the 2017 list. That distinction may not affect vacationers from booking another trip to the Sunshine State. Just looking at the holiday vacation crowds at the Orlando theme parks and the people flocking to the Florida beaches. Maybe a little guilty pleasure is acceptable for vacation.
