Forget Scooby and Shaggy — Daphne and Velma are the real stars!

Daphne and Velma will be hitting the big screen without any of the guys from the Scooby Doo gang, and we can’t wait to see it.

High school aged Daphne and Velma will be the stars of the next live-action Scooby Doo movie, thanks to Blondie Productions.

Daphne will be played by Sarah Jeffery, who has been in the Descendants TV movies and was most recently in Shades of Blue. Velma will be played by Sarah Gilman, who you might recognize from Last Man Standing.

Run by Ashley & Jennifer Tisdale, Blondie Girl Productions will be teaming up with Blue Ribbon Content for Daphne and Velma.

The Plot:

"Before their eventual team-up with Scooby and the gang, bright and optimistic Daphne and whip-smart and analytical Velma are both mystery-solving teens who are best friends but have only met online — until now. Daphne has just transferred to Velma’s school, Ridge Valley High, a tech-savvy institute with all the latest gadgets provided by the school’s benefactor, tech billionaire Tobias Bloom. And while competition is fierce among the students for a coveted internship at Bloom Innovative, Daphne and Velma dig beyond all the gadgets and tech to investigate what is causing some of the brightest students in school to disappear — only to emerge again in a zombie-fied state."

“We wanted to give the audience a new take on these two familiar faces, who are fan favorites in the Scooby-Doo universe,” Peter Girardi, EVP of Blue Ribbon Content & EVP Alternative Programming at Warner Bros. Animation said to Deadline. “Daphne and Velma are two iconic and strong female characters, and this latest adventure of theirs will be both inspiring and entertaining for the audience.”

I’m really excited about this film and the possibilities for it. I love that they’re going to be Internet friends that get to meet in person. I desperately hope that we’ll get to see how actually brilliant Daphne can be without Fred constantly negging her. Especially since we have an all-female production team. I’m here for all of the positive, feminist portrayals of two of my favorite characters.

It’s currently shooting in Atlanta, and planned to be in movie theaters next year. You’ll probably find me in a seat at the theaters.
