Star Wars: Reviewing November’s The Last Jedi Smuggler’s Bounty box

Does Funko’s subscription box, Smuggler’s Bounty, have any hints for Star Wars: The Last Jedi? Not really, but here’s what’s inside.

With Star Wars: The Last Jedi under a month away, it’s no surprise that Funko’s theme for its bimonthly Star Wars box, Smuggler’s Bounty, is the upcoming film. As always, the box contains at least one Pop! figure (and it’s always an exclusive, be it just a flocked variant or otherwise something you can’t get anywhere else), and an assortment of other goodies, which can take numerous forms.

As with May’s box celebrating A New Hope, the last one that this writer purchased, the big-ticket item is, in fact, the Funko Pop! (Also, warning: spoilers ahead for the contents.)

It’s not quite as big as Luke Skywalker in his landspeeder, but that doesn’t mean it’s not impressive all on its own. Here’s Poe Dameron in his X-Wing:

There are a lot of details on this Pop!, including little BB-8 riding right behind Poe, and a couple Aurebesh phrases on Poe’s helmet. They even managed to model his hair beneath the helmet at the nap of his non-existent-because-he’s-a-bobblehead neck.

As with the Luke Pop!, here’s a picture of Poe’s X-Wing next to a normal-sized Pop!, in this case The Last Jedi‘s version of Leia, for scale:

But Funko did manage to squeeze a few other things in for its subscribers this month. Perhaps the most underwhelming item is the Luke Skywalker Mystery Mini bobblehead:

The box suggests that there are two variants available, either the Jedi Master version or the one above, which is more of a Luke on a journey. There’s a lot of detail, especially on his back, but maybe it’s just that after Poe, any other collectible like this seems a bit silly and small.

The bandana in the box is for fans of the First Order, with Star Destroyers, stormtroopers, Captain Phasma’s helmet, Kylo Ren’s mask and lightsaber and the emblem of the order providing the pattern here. It’s hard to capture how big it is — almost a little too large. However, it’s a particularly cool, versatile item.

Poe Dameron’s helping out to display the last two items in the box: a pair of First Order/Praetorian Guard socks and a small vinyl Rey keychain. There’s no point in complaining about either. Rey’s adorable even in miniaturized form, and the socks have a killer pattern as well as a nice weight to them — not too thin, but not terribly heavy.

Next: Can we forgive Kylo Ren in Star Wars?

All told, four out of five items being cool isn’t a terrible ratio. Good on you, Funko.
