What are the Marvel Cinematic Universe 2020 movies? 3 guesses

Kevin Feige has confirmed that he knows what movies Marvel aims to present to the world in 2020, but here are three possibilities.

In a recent interview with Collider, Kevin Feige flat-out affirmed that though the announcement won’t come for some time (he specifically said “a while”), he and Marvel Studios have a plan for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While it’s impossible to know for certain what the MCU will look like after the pair of upcoming Avengers movies, which he emphasizes in the same interview will have “lots of evolutions for lots of characters,” it’s time to start speculating on three movies that might get the nod.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Even before this year’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 actually hit theaters, director James Gunn confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would happen. At the time, I flat-out speculated that May 2020 could be the date — reinforced by the second installment arriving in May as well as some research into dates Marvel’s already claimed. Of the three possibilities here, this one’s the most certain.

Doctor Strange 2

With Collider specifically asking whether or not a Doctor Strange sequel is possible, and Feige not saying more than it’s something Marvel would like to do, it’s not hard to read into the fact that Marvel would probably like to go back to the mystical side of things. Additionally, looking at the release dates of standalone movies (which also reminds us of Guardians 3), the trend is anywhere from two to four years between releases. Since the first Doctor Strange dropped in November 2016, it’s possible that the Nov. 6, 2020 date Marvel has chosen is for the second outing for Strange.

Black Widow

This past weekend, per The Mary Sue, fans’ hopes for Black Widow as a film came back to life — thanks to Stan Lee himself. The only remaining date of the three Marvel already has is in July. While The Mary Sue notes that post-Wonder Woman, “audiences are ready,” if Marvel really wants to answer Wonder Woman with a two-year counterstrike of Captain Marvel and Black Widow (with Captain Marvel more directly in competition thanks to releasing in the same year as the Wonder Woman sequel … you know, the one that Gal Gadot technically hasn’t signed for yet if reports are to be believed), then it’s not hard to see where they’d try to have two summer blockbusters led by women.

Then again, as noted in the above about Wonder Woman 2, outlets like Forbes suggest that it move to 2020 because of Star Wars Episode IX … in which case, it’s possible we could get Wonder Woman 2 and Black Widow within a month or so of each other, based on the guess that that July movie really is Black Widow.

Still, Feige has spoken about her getting her own movie before … granted, it was over a year ago, but Feige and Lee together makes us suspect that the time could be right. Well, that and Taika Waititi also wanting to work on a movie for her.
