Grey’s Anatomy season 14: Will Ben and Bailey break up over this firefighter thing?

Ben finally told his wife, Miranda Bailey, that he wanted to be a firefighter on last week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Will the spin-off see them break up?

Coupled with the news that Grey’s Anatomy was developing another spin-off to be centered around firefighters and the heated season 13 finale, it comes as no surprise that Ben Warren (Jason George) would be the familiar face to head off to the spin-off. Just like with Private Practice, the very notion of a spin-off implies that we’ll see familiar faces here and there.

While I’m super excited for Ben and know his character is the type of person to try new things (he switched from anesthesiologist to actual doctor in Grey’s Anatomy), we’ve all wondered how the show would handle his departure.

According to a new interview with TVLine, things apparently won’t just blow over. Although last week’s 300th episode saw Bailey go from angry to slightly less angry, Jason George did (unfortunately) say: “Nothing lasts forever.”

But come on. It’s Ben and Bailey.

Do you all remember how Ben fought for her and pursued her? Do you remember Bailey’s first divorce? I mean, they are like the mom and dad of Grey’s Anatomy right now and the couple with the sturdiest relationship. Surely, after breaking up Owen and Amelia, the show won’t also break up Ben and Bailey, right?

Further, George added:

"“It’s going to get hot. Best-case scenario is, it gets real hot, and that’s meant both for the pun and about their relationship. That’s as good as Ben can hope for.”"

From what we know about them, I almost feel like he means “hot” in the bedroom as they work through their frustrations with each other in a slightly more physical manner.

Joining the spin-off doesn’t immediately mean he needs to be written out of Grey’s Anatomy. It just means we’ll see him less. And with as many characters as we have, that’s not the worst thing. Though I’ll miss his supporting role regardless.

Grey’s Anatomy’s winter finale airs this Thursday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
