Taylor Swift Wins CMA Award for Song of the Year
By Kara Johnson
Taylor Swift may no longer be a country artist but that isn’t stopping her from winning country awards.
After hearing about Swift’s nomination for Song of the Year for her song ‘Better Man,” performed by Little Big Town, we had no doubts that she had a chance to win the award. Tonight, November 8, the moment of truth was revealed and Swift was indeed crowned the winner for Song of the Year. The songwriter couldn’t make it to the awards show but that didn’t stop Little Big Town from accepting the award on her behalf.
“We didn’t write this,” Karen Fairchild said onstage. “We’re really grateful that [bandmate] Philip [Sweet] checked his email one night and that song was in his email. We want to say thanks to Taylor Swift. She couldn’t be here tonight with us.” She continued her speech with a thankful heart, “Taylor, wherever you are, thank you for writing this beautiful song, and loving songs and loving Nashville. To the fans, to country radio, thanks for being so good to us.”
After the award was announced, Swift posted a video from New York watching the award show, thanking Little Big Town and sharing the love.
Winning this award for Swift is a full circle moment as she gears up to release her sixth studio album reputation on Friday, November 10. The first award from the reputation era is a country award for Swift’s incredible talent in songwriting. If that doesn’t showcase the artist Swift is, we don’t know what will.
Swift made a surprise appearance during the 50th annual CMA Awards last year to announce the award for Entertainer of the Year. Who knew she would be a part of the show again and win an award? Congratulations Taylor on your win. You deserve it!
Taylor Swift’s sixth studio album reputation hits stores everywhere on November 10.
