Stranger Things 2, Helen Mirren and Godless: Trailer Tuesday

Netflix is stepping up its trailer game lately, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t all fawn over Helen Mirren in a Trailer Tuesday roundup.

With Netflix’s November looking stronger than ever, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that two of its series take their rightful place in this week’s Trailer Tuesday. Although Stranger Things 2 is a bit more obvious, Godless might not be, and then we get to Helen Mirren in a horror movie that we definitely have on our watchlist for February, right next to Black Panther.

Let’s start with Stranger Things 2. Although the show doesn’t quite have a new trailer, there is a set of nine teasers that are sure to tease fans, originally announced on Twitter.

Here’s just one of them, featuring Dustin in costume as a Ghostbuster.

All of them are quite short, making it difficult to draw any conclusions, but Dustin has a pet tortoise or turtle and frankly, that’s a very important plot development in our eyes. Nancy shows up in two of the nine teasers; Will shows up a few times as well as Mike. The teaser with an “unknown” subject is from the clip of Eleven we saw last week. However, can you blame Netflix for wanting to make sure the fanbase is as excited as it can possibly be to watch Stranger Things 2?

Next up on our list is Godless (with a tip of the hat, pun intended, to Collider), following up on last week’s preview with a longer look at the series. Warning: this clip contains language and imagery that is not safe for work.

Well, it does solve one mystery that we here at Culturess identified in the above-linked post: Michelle Dockery’s town of women was made that way by a mining accident, not because all of its residents banded together. Even the trailer seems well aware of what it’s confronting when it comes to the, ahem, stereotypes.

Finally, it all comes down to Helen Mirren in a movie with a very unwieldy name, Winchester: The House that Ghosts Built, again via Collider:

We’re with the YouTube commenter who pointed out it’s rather inane to have a pre-trailer teaser, but nevertheless, here we are. Somehow, we get the feeling that this take on the tale of Sarah Winchester isn’t going to be quite as weird as last year’s House of Penance comic miniseries, which not only gets stranger but also has the better title anyway. Even so, Winchester: The House that Ghosts Built still has Helen Mirren, and like Collider, we’re in basically on that alone.

Oh, and the Winchester Mystery House (yes, it’s really called that) apparently had only about 200 rooms in real life, but the trailer says 500, presumably because that sounds more impressive.
