Are you ready for it? We don’t think you are. Taylor Swift just dropped a brand new song and it’s gorgeous and lyrically clever.
Yes, Taylor Swift has dropped a brand new song from her sixth studio album reputation and it’s the best one yet. On Thursday morning (October 19), the songstress teased her followers about an upcoming song coming at Midnight. The song comes out just a little over a month after the release of her second promo single “…Ready For It?” the follow up to her lead single “Look What You Made Me Do”.
So what’s so cleverly witty about the track? The lyrics. While the beat makes you want to listen to it on blast with the windows down, the lyrics are what make the track what it is, and in this case, it’s brilliant. While it holds similarities to “How You Get the Girl” from 1989, it could quite possibly be some of the best work she’s ever done.
Throughout the track, Swift sings about someone being so gorgeous it hurts and being frustrated by it but in the purest way. Not only does she mention being mad about how attractive someone is, she also mentions her cats, mentioning how she’ll stumble on home to them alone.
"“You’re so gorgeous / I can’t say anything to your face / ‘Cause look at your face / And I’m so furious,” she sings. “At you for making me feel this way / But what can I say? / You’re gorgeous.”"
We can already tell by each track we’ve heard from reputation that it will be lyrically sharper, and we can’t wait to see what else we hear when the whole package drops on November 10. Check out the lyric video for the track below:
Gorgeous Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
You should take it as a compliment
That I got drunk and made fun of the way you talk
You should think about the consequence
Of your magnetic field being a little too strong
And I got a boyfriend, he’s older than us
He’s in the club doing I don’t know what
You’re so cool it makes me hate you so much
[Pre-Chorus]
Whiskey on ice, sunset and vine
You’ve ruined my life by not being mine
[Chorus]
You’re so gorgeous
I can’t say anything to your face
‘Cause look at your face
And I’m so furious
At you for making me feel this way
But what can I say?
You’re gorgeous
[Verse 2]
You should take it as a compliment
That I’m talking to everyone here but you
And you should think about the consequence
Of you touching my hand in the darkened room
If you’ve got a girlfriend, I’m jealous of her
But if you’re single that’s honestly worse
‘Cause you’re so gorgeous it actually hurts
(Honey, it hurts)
[Pre-Chorus]
Ocean blue eyes looking in mine
I feel like I might sink and drown and die
[Chorus]
You’re so gorgeous
I can’t say anything to your face
‘Cause look at your face
And I’m so furious
At you for making me feel this way
But what can I say?
You’re gorgeous
[Bridge]
You make me so happy it turns back to sad, yeah
There’s nothing I hate more than what I can’t have
You are so gorgeous it makes me so mad
You make me so happy it turns back to sad, yeah
There’s nothing I hate more than what I can’t have
Guess I’ll just stumble on home to my cats
Alone, unless you wanna come along, oh!
[Chorus]
You’re so gorgeous
I can’t say anything to your face
‘Cause look at your face
And I’m so furious
At you for making me feel this way
But what can I say?
You’re gorgeous
[Outro]
You make me so happy it turns back to sad, yeah
There’s nothing I hate more than what I can’t have
You are so gorgeous it makes me so mad
You’re gorgeous
You make me so happy it turns back to sad, yeah
There’s nothing I hate more than what I can’t have
You are so gorgeous it makes me so mad
You’re gorgeous
