Taylor Swift Throwback Thursday: A Performance With Keith Urban

When we reminisce on the 1989 World Tour, we can’t help but think about the special guests Taylor Swift brought onto the stage every night.

This Thursday (October 5), we’re throwing it back to when Swift brought country legend Keith Urban to the stage in Toronto, Canada. It was a night unlike any other. Why? Because for Swift, it was special. There was something unique and different about the way she introduced Urban than she had her other special guests. It appeared that not only does Swift respect Urban as an artist but also as a person.

This isn’t the only time Swift has performed with Urban on the same stage. She had actually toured with Urban during the start of her career and this time around, Urban got to see the then country girl perform a sold out show and did it faithfully alongside her. The songstress spoke highly of Urban when introducing him, telling the crowd that he is one of the most talented people that has ever been born.

The man and the legend is familiar with Swift and yes, he has been one of the most gracious and kind artists when it comes to supporting Swift every chance he gets. The “Look What You Made Me Do” is aware of this. “Someone absolutely incredible is about to come to the stage,” she said to her audience who shrieked with excitement. “This is someone who has sold 20 million records. This is someone who, more importantly, is an amazing human being. I actually opened up for his tour years ago. He’s been so wonderful to me. He’s one of the most talented people who’s ever been born. Toronto, Keith Urban is here to see you.”

After the praising introduction, Urban appeared with a guitar in hand as he embodied an all-black ensemble, matching Swift’s leather outfit. Without hesitation, Urban began to sing the opening verse to his No.1 hit “John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16”. Soon, Urban joined Swift by walking down the catwalk with her side by side. And yes, we really do believe Swift was having a fangirl moment during the performance. How could you not?

Swift didn’t just sing one song with Urban though. After the first hit, she asked the crowd if they were up for another one. Without hesitation, the crowd screamed in agreement and then the two artists broke out into another Urban hit entitled “Somebody Like You”. Watching her take the part of a frontwoman as Urban became the master with his guitar was a sight to see. Two legends took the stage in Toronto and it was everything you’d think it would be: magical and incredible.
