All but confirming the Legion of Super-Heroes’ presence in the Arrowverse, Supergirl casts Amy Jackson as notable Legion member, Saturn Girl.

For anyone familiar with the Arrowverse, there have been enough nods to the Legion of Super-Heroes that fans are expecting another TV show to be announced any day now. With Legion rings making appearances on not one, but two occasions on two separate shows and Mon-El’s long overdue departure into an unidentified black hole at the end of Supergirl season 2, Monday’s news almost feels like another well-placed set-up.

As announced, Supergirl cast Amy Jackson as Saturn Girl for a recurring role this season. While her real name is Imra Ardeen, Saturn Girl exists as one of the founding members of the Legion of Super-Heroes. Also, she has some nifty telekinetic powers.

While Jackson’s casting sounds cool (hey, another female superhero!), it does leave us wondering what her role will be in Supergirl. According to reports, “she uses her telekinetic ability to help those in need. She was born on Titan, one of Saturn’s moons, and arrives on Earth to help Supergirl battle one of her biggest threats.”

So what threat will Supergirl be up against this time? And how does Mon-El (who presumably becomes a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes) factor in? Is this a love triangle or another invasion? Will they team up against Reign? Which one will we have to sit through?

Well, let’s look at the positives. As I mentioned above, we have another female superhero, who will hopefully prove to be a great companion for Supergirl. Obviously, the show has plenty of women, but neither Supergirl or Kara Danvers appear to have anyone to confide in. Where are her gal pals to chum around with? Like, of course, she’s depressed, she only has one gal pal/friend, and sometimes, Alex. Hopefully, Saturn Girl only exists to prop Supergirl up even further.

Obvious parallels between Supergirl and Smallville aside, let’s look at the (very) big picture here. I mean, think of all the other cool Legionnaires that could make an appearance, like Brainiac 5 and the Fatal Five. Although Unlimited made Brainiac 5 a little weird for me, Injustice brought it back.
