Taylor Swift Song of the Week: 22
By Kara Johnson
It’s the Fall season, which has us listening to Taylor Swift’s RED nonstop. Lately, we’ve been playing “22” on loop and for good reason. It’s a jam.
“22” has become an anthem for many, especially when it comes to a 22nd birthday or anytime you’re celebrating the number 22. It’s fun, empowering and a song that you could listen to for days. So what are you waiting for?
The song was written by the songstress and Max Martin and Shellback and was released as RED’s fourth single in March of 2013. If you haven’t head it already, you should know that the song is about the joys of being 22 years old. “For me, being 22 has been my favorite year of my life. I like all the possibilities of how you’re still learning, but you know enough,” she tells Billboard as she reflects on the song. “You still know nothing, but you know that you know nothing. You’re old enough to start planning your life, but you’re young enough to know there are so many unanswered questions. That brings about a carefree feeling that is sort of based on in-decision and fear and at the same time letting loose. Being 22 has taught me so much”
If you aren’t convinced about the happiness of the song, watch the music video below:
Several songs on RED charted and 22 was certainly one of them. The track debuted at No.44 on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as No.7 on the Digital Songs chart with sales of 108,000. Later on, the song re-entered the Hot 100 at No.84.
It’s certainly a track that is great to listen to with your windows down as you celebrate life. We thank Swift for releasing such a great song. It just proves that some songs can be lyrically beautiful and fun to jam to all at once.
Even for the song being 5 years old doesn’t stop everyone from dancing and singing it at the top of their longs. It’s a song that will last a lifetime and will go down in history as one of the best jams that celebrate the glory days of 22.
