Taylor Swift is making headlines this morning not for her music, but for a new meme shared by Paul Ryan’s Twitter page.

On Friday, September 22, Ryan attempted to get his fans and followers’ attention when he shared an image of the 27-year-old “Look What You Made Me Do” singer in an attempt to prove that it is time for a change in the country’s tax change.

“America’s music tastes have changed since 1986, but our tax code hasn’t. It’s time,” the Speaker of the House wrote in his message, according to a report by Billboard magazine.

Taylor Swift was compared to The Bangles

Included in his post was a side-by-side photo of The Bangles and Swift and in the caption, Ryan pointed out that the number one songs have evolved since 1986 but noted that the tax code has not.

As music fans may recall, The Bangles’ “Walk Like an Egyptian” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1986 and today, Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” is currently in the midst of its third week on the top of the chart.

What is Paul Ryan’s musical preference?

According to Billboard magazine’s report, Ryan’s comparison of Swift and The Bangles is pretty silly considering the politician’s past history of citing music. As the outlet explained, he’s been known to frequently speak of Rage Against the Machine, which is said to be his favorite band, and then taking it back after the band made it fairly clear that they were not impressed.

Billboard also noted that Ryan reportedly owns, or owned at one point, a poster of Nickelback.
