You should probably stop hoping for an Olsen Twins cameo in Fuller House

The creator of Fuller House says that it’s been three years and the Olsen Twins still haven’t agreed to a cameo, so it’s probably never going to happen.

If you watched Fuller House when it first premiered on Netflix, you saw the show give a very pointed wink to two of its missing stars, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. While it seemed unnecessarily cheeky, anyone who saw through the blatant lens of nostalgia Fuller House was using agreed that the Olsen Twins dodged a bullet. Though the show’s on season 3 now and still completely Olsen-less, it’s not for a lack of trying.

In a new report from TV Line, creator Jeff Franklin put his feelings pretty frankly:

"Personally, I’ve given up asking them. The door is open, but I’m not going to be calling them anymore to invite them. They just don’t seem interested in coming. It’s been three years of invitations, so they know the door is open. It’s up to them to decide if they want to come play or not."

When he says “three years of invitations,” he really means it. In fact, a very similar story started circulating last year thanks to Jodie Sweetin’s comments to Entertainment Tonight. After the Olsen Twins turned down the role, Fuller House almost considered reaching out to their younger sister, too. Don’t get me wrong, Elizabeth Olsen is a great actor and absolutely looks just like them. But I recently listened to her on Anna Faris’ Unqualified podcast and got the impression that Lizzie’s a little more pragmatic than that.

In fact, I sense it’s a trait found in all the Olsen sisters. At this point, I almost feel like it’s bordering on harassment to keep asking them or make it seem like they’re just being obstinate.

Make no mistake, I would love to see them return to television or make a cameo somewhere. I still have my Mary-Kate and Ashley Barbie dolls (the Switching Goals ones) from Christmas like a decade and a half ago, I’ve seen everything in their filmography at least one hundred times, and when I become a millionaire, my first major purchase will be from one of their clothing lines — but they don’t owe us anything. And anyone holding out for a cameo may as well just move on, just like they have.

Fuller House season 3 is now streaming on Netflix.
