Emmys 2017: 5 WTF moments
The Emmys happened and … yeah, they happened. There were some incredible moments and we’re looking at the five most shocking!
When it comes to award shows, there is always shocking twists and the Emmys were no exception. Everyone seemed to have quite the night and we are looking at the best moments from the 69th annual Emmy Awards!
Sean Spicer was there
Yep, ever wish you could have seen Melissa McCarthy and Sean Spicer in the same room? Well, we all got our messed up wish. In a strange turn of events, suddenly Spicer is a public figure we want to see at the Emmys? Well, I don’t, but he was there. And it was shocking, because why did we have to see him? Why does he get to go, but none of us? Whatever the reason, he was one of the last people I expected to see.
Donald Glover is the first African American to win Best Director
Love Atlanta and our brand new Lando Calrissian? Well, then it was quite the night for you. Donald Glover not only won for his directing, but he also took home the Emmy for his acting! Basically, it was a good night to be Donald Glover and to be a fan of the comedian/musician/brilliant man.
At long last, here is your Emmy
Alec Baldwin won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his portrayal of Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live. The best part wasn’t really Alec winning, but rather his response to the fact that he won an Emmy for playing Trump, a man who has continually talked about how angry he is that he hasn’t won one. It was pretty great.
We’re working 9 to 5
That’s right. Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, and Lily Tomlin took to the stage and that’s all that mattered. Honestly, couldn’t tell you what they presented, I was just too busy thinking of the ’80s classic and how fierce my three moms are.
Riz Ahmed took home an Emmy
When it came to predictions, most fans wanted Riz Ahmed to win. But we were all smart. We knew he probably wouldn’t because it is the Emmys after all. To our surprise, Riz took home the award and throughout all the United States, you heard fans of Riz MC screaming out of their minds because our talented fave finally got recognized.
Honorable mention: Margaret Atwood and Sterling K. Brown
First of all, when The Handmaid’s Tale won, they brought up Margaret Atwood. They didn’t let her speak, which was a mistake, but still. Second, Sterling K. Brown didn’t care if he was being played off, he was going to talk and they literally cut his mic. It was shocking and amazing, and we love him for it.
