The Disaster Artist trailer gives a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Citizen Kane of bad films, The Room. And it’s hilarious.

The first full-length trailer for The Disaster Artist is here. And it’s as hysterical as you’d expect, but it also shows the heart in the film about the world’s best bad movie.

The Disaster Artist previously released a short promo of James Franco reenacting The Room’s famous “Oh, hi Mark” scene. It was a hilarious, pitch-perfect tribute.

But this new trailer shows that The Disaster Artist will do more than just make fun of the Citizen Kane of bad movies. The Disaster Artist is about a man with a dream. When Tommy Wiseau doesn’t make it as an actor, he sets out to make his own movie. And he will stop at nothing to make his dream come true despite the constant naysayers and laughter in his way.

The trailer starts with Wiseau and Greg Sestero bonding over their dreams to make it big in Hollywood. Sestero’s amazed at Wiseau’s courage and dedication. He goes all in when he screams “Stella” in acting class or recites Hamlet’s soliloquy for Judd Apatow. Of course, it doesn’t pay off.

So Wiseau sets out to make his own movie, The Room, about an all-American hero named Johnny, who may also be a vampire. It, of course, turns out to be a disaster.

Of course, The Disaster Artist is a movie based on The Room, after all, so it has to show the hilarious, disastrous moments that went into the movie. The trailer gives die-hard The Room fans some glimpses of the movie’s best/worst moments including a chirping scene, Johnny shooting himself and writhing with the dress, the “hi doggie” scene, and, of course, the infamous “You are tearing me apart, Lisa!”

As we now know, The Room didn’t turn out the way Wiseau has planned. The movie flopped horribly, only to be resurrected into a cult classic. Midnight screenings have been shown around the world with people dressing up, screaming out lines, and throwing plastic spoons.

Wiseau’s friend and co-star Sestero went on to write about his friendship with Wiseau and making The Room in The Disaster Artist. And it’s a truly hilarious, strange tale. The film based on the book just had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and is getting rave reviews.

I often wonder what Wiseau thinks of the reactions to his movie and the way it became such a cult sensation. So what does Wiseau think about all this? He told the L.A. Times he approves of The Disaster Artist 99.9%, but didn’t like the way Franco threw the football or the lighting.

I love The Room and have gone to a few screenings, and The Disaster Artist looks like it’s going to be hilarious and a ton of fun. I can’t wait. The Disaster Artist opens on Dec. 1.
