Bobby Moynihan will host The Muppets Take the Bowl

Bobby Moynihan is hosting The Muppets Take The Bowl. The show will be pure comedy gold. And Moynihan will even get shot out of a cannon.

Bobby Moynihan will host the Muppets very first live show, The Muppets Take the Bowl, and it’s going to be amazing!

The live shows were announced earlier this month, but they just announced Moynihan as the host. And already, the SNL alum has gotten into the Muppet spirit, promising laughs, music, and him being covered in tapioca and shot out of a cannon.

Moynihan explained that he’s been a Muppets fan his entire life, so this was a real dream for him. “I’ve never done anything like this before … for instance, why does Gonzo want me to get in a cannon filled with tapioca?” he told Variety. “The fans are in for a treat. It’s pure Muppet magic and joy.”

And Gonzo did confirm the canon firing will be happening. “When I found out that Bobby is a fan of mine and that he has never been shot out of a cannon or dipped fully-clothed into tapioca, I knew he’d be the perfect guest star for our show,” he said.

Moynihan seems like a perfect host for The Muppets Take the Bowl. Not only is he absolutely hilarious, but he’s also a Muppets fan. You need to be a big fan to truly throw yourself into the joy of the Muppets. And you know Moynihan will go all out when he comes face-to-face with Miss Piggy, Kermit, Fozzie Bear, and more. Plus, he just finished an amazing nine-year run on SNL and is about to premiere his new sitcom Me, Myself & I. So this is the perfect time for him to take on the Muppets.

The Muppets Take the Bowl will also have new chapters of “Pigs in Space,” “Veterinarian’s Hospital,” and “Muppet Labs,” and a fireworks finale. It’s going to be awesome.

What I’m interested in, though, is Kermit. Steve Whitmire was dramatically fired after voicing Kermit for 27 years. In an emotional blog post, Whitmire said that he was blindsided by the firing, tried to work things out, and felt like he let Jim Henson down. Disney then defended its decision to fire the puppeteer.

Now Matt Vogel has made his debut as Kermit in a new “Muppets Thought of the Week” video. It’s sad to see Whitmire go, especially under such tense circumstances. He was the voice of a beloved puppet to so many people for so many years and I was really upset by the news.

But Vogel does still sound like the old Kermit and he’ll get to be the real Kermit for a whole new generation. It’ll be interesting to see what Kermit is like during the show.
